Obituary for James Harrell Adkins

James Harrell Adkins, 79 of San Antonio passed away Friday, February 10, 2023. He was a small business owner, insurance adjuster and a U.S. Army Veteran in the Vietnam Era.

James’s legacy ripples decades long and his impact will be felt for many generations to come. As a little league football and baseball coach, he mentored many young boys and men. He acted as a father figure to many, and served his community through his church and local organizations.
His commitment to family can be beautifully witnessed through his 60-year marriage to the love of his life, Diann. When asked about his greatest accomplishment, he responded "my children". His contagious smile and charismatic personality modeled love for God, family and country to all he encountered.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Nannie (Weaver) Adkins; one sister and five brothers.

Graveside services will be 11AM, Thursday February 16, 2023 at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren, AR with military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

He is survived by a daughter Melissa Mahan and husband Don Mahan of San Antonio; two sons Scott Adkins and wife Diana of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Dennis Adkins and wife Tina of Yukon, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law Angela Adkins of Broken Arrow; two brothers Benny Adkins and Eddie Adkins both of Van Buren; one sister Margie Johnson; six grandchildren; Brittany Adkins Herring, Sara Mahan Hoxie, Alexandra Adkins, Mitchell Adkins, Austin Mahan and Scotty Adkins; seven great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
