Obituary for Fred N. Beckman

Fred Beckman, 82, of Fort Smith passed away on Wednesday December 14, 2022 in a local hospital. He was born March 2, 1940 in Fort Smith to Frank and Mary (Word) Beckman. Fred was owner and operator of Beckman Cabinet Shop, a member of Spradling Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a member of the Jaycee’s.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Betty; three daughters, Elizabeth Beckman of Fort Smith, Lynne Irvin (B.J.) of Trophy Club, TX and Jennifer Beckman of Greenwood; one son, Doug Beckman of Fort Smith; two sisters, Francis Willis (Ross) of Springdale and Judy Beckman of Little Rock; three brothers, Charlie Beckman (Kay) of North Little Rock, David Beckman (Gale) of Fort Smith and John Beckman (Deniece) of Fort Smith; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Fred was a man of diverse interests and talents. When he turned 40 he began running and competing in races, including 9 marathons (notably the New York City, Dallas White Rock, and Pikes Peak), he also competed in triathlons. He enjoyed both water and snow skiing, beach vacations, boating, and camping. One of his favorite things to do was spend time with his family, his siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 17, at Spradling Baptist Church with burial in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith. The Family will visit with friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons; Drew Irvin, Tyler Beckman, Noah Irvin, Zach Beckman, Mason Harmon, and Dakota Gantt. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Spradling Baptist Church. Pastors Reverend Don Bradford and Reverend Ron Williamson will conduct the service.
