Dr. J. Barry Ramey, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Sunday January 29,
2023 at the age of 70. He was a dedicated father, friend and grandfather.
Barry will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, kind heart, sharp sense of
humor, and his passion for music and the outdoors.
He worked as an optometrist for 45 years, starting in the Air Force at Loring Air
Force base in Maine and then in private practice in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Many
will remember Barry in his white coat uniform. He was also a member of Goddard
Methodist Church.
Barry is survived by his partner, Beverly Buchanan, sister Judy Renn and Rita
Ramey, the mother of his two daughters Leah (Zack) Coltrain and Jenna (Steve)
Mamer, and his 1-year-old granddaughter Rachel Mamer; as well as many close
friends and extended family. Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph
Barrett Ramey and Mildred (Hood) Ramey and brother-in-law David Renn. 

Barry’s family is holding a celebration of life gathering Thursday February 16,
2023, at the Fort Smith River Front Pavilion from 5-7 p.m. with a formal tribute to
him at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome.
